More ch...ch...ch...changes....

Due date changed again!

Today was my first Midwife appointment up in Owen Sound. We met with Whitney, our primary Midwife and she went over the basics with us. I was able to ask my very important questions - can I eat peanut butter (yes, it's a good source of protein) and when is it safe to dye my hair (as soon as I want, just in a well ventilated area)! We went over dates again and settled on December 1st as the due date, so that makes me 10 weeks, 4 days today.

My ultrasound that was scheduled for today had to be cancelled sadly as the woman who does the type I was having done wouldn't be there today. Luckily we were able to reschedule for next Friday, so Matt will get to see the babe then.

So, we didn't get to see the little one today, BUT we got to hear him/her! Whitney asked if we wanted to have a listen, but warned that we might not be able to hear the heartbeat just yet as s/he is still in behind my pelvic bone. But sure enough, we were able to hear the little heartbeat loud and clear! VERY exciting! Matt was all smiles! The heartbeat was about 165bpm, so I am growing a hummingbird, not a baby apparently!

In other news of changes...my wardrobe is changing! All of my pants are starting to feel a little tight at the waist and buttons feel like they are crushing the baby! While we were up in Owen Sound I bought a couple of pairs of maternity capri pants and a new shirt to hide the bump at work for a while. I have to attend open houses at the new centres in the next couple of weeks and no one at work knows yet, so I needed something disguising!

More next week after the ultrasound when we get to see the little one!

Ch..ch..ch..changes...

Ugh, let's pick a date and stick with it! Following my last ultrasound the date was change at the appointment, but then I also got a follow up call from the nurse saying the Dr. looked it over and would put me at 8 weeks, give or take a week...so yet again the due date was changed to Dec. 6th. So that would make me 9 weeks this coming Sunday. I would really like them to settle on a date so we can know when we can start telling people! I want to wait until I am 12 weeks along to tell anyone else, just to be sure!

I go again for another ultrasound next Friday (a week tomorrow), so Matt will get to see the little one then! We also have our first midwife appointment following that so hopefully we will get to hear the heart beat then!

In other changes...apparently I look pregnant! Yesterday after work I was out raking the front part of the yard (next to the road) and Matt drove up and told me that even from down the road he could tell I was pregnant and that I am showing already. Everything I have read says it's a little too early just yet, so it must be just bloat. Lovely!

More next week after the ultrasound and midwife appointment!

BabyMurphy's 1st Picture

I went for my first ultrasound today! Today was just for dating, to get a better idea of where I'm at and when we should expect the little one to get here. The doctor had originally said Nov 25th, but based on my cycle I thought it would be closer to the first week of December. Today the due date was switched to Nov 30th, so there is still a good chance we will have a December baby! That puts me at 7 weeks 6 days today.

Below is the babe's first picture! The little round bit on the left is the yolk salk, and the rest of the blob is the baby. :) Since Matt wasn't able to come (I had to book this ultrasound for the first available, so I couldn't wait for an opening on a Friday), my Mum came and got to see the babe too. We saw the little heartbeat flickering away! So exciting!

Spreading the News!

Oops, it's been a while - let's blame that on "placenta brain", something I have seen many a pregnant woman use as an excuse for just about anything!

Last weekend (on Good Friday) I got to tell the girls - it was SO exciting, but strangely nervewracking! I didn't want to just blurt it out, but I also hadn't thought up an interesting way to do it (let's blame that on the exhaustion). Luckily though, Laura gave me the perfect set up! We were all lazying about in her livingroom and we were discussing how old we have become, and she then said, "would you have ever thought we would be here, Elsie with a new baby, Randi with a puppy and married..." and thats when I blurted out, and "me pregnant!" I think there was a bit of disbelief at first, but then it was tears and hugs!

On Easter Monday Matt and I took my parents out for lunch with the intention of telling them as well, but again, we didn't have anything clever planned. We went to Hawg's Breath and after we had received our food and I still hadn't said anything, Matt said "so Joelene, are you going to tell them or what?" My Mum just turned to me and said "are you" and I nodded - yelps and tears followed, along with the cutest statement of "my dream has come true". Both of them were really excited for us, and I think my Mum will have a REALLY hard time keeping it a secret for the next month or so!

That night I called David as well to tell him. It seemed like I was on a roll now and just couldn't stop telling people! I wanted everyone to share in our excitement! I chatted with David for a bit about school and how things are going out there and when he asked what I was up to, I said "not much, just cooking a baby", which isn't the clearest of statements in expressing that you are pregnant, but he got it!

Tuesday I finally got the results from the bloodwork I had done a week prior, which of course confirmed that I am indeed pregnant with HcG levels of about 14000 - whatever that means...

I'm still peeing lots and feeling exhausted a lot of the time, but I have recently added to that some nausea. It's mainly at night and creating some food aversions, but not horrible yet - and lets hope it stays like that!

I go next Monday for my dating ultrasound, so I'll post an update after that! :)

Update

Just a quick update, nothing too exciting...

I got my blood work results back on Monday from the 6 viles they took last week. However the nurse didn't tell me much over the phone, just that "everything looks fine", she said all will be discussed at my next appointment, but she thinks I am RH positive which she thinks means I will need a shot to make sure I don't poison the baby with my blood closer to the end of the pregnancy. I think I'll wait to hear that from the doctor seeing as she didn't seem too clear on what was going on. I also asked if the test confirmed my pregnancy and apparently out of all 6 viles not one drop of blood was tested to confirm! Grrr! So, the nurse left a bloodwork requisition at the front desk for me and I went in Tuesday for one more vile to be sucked from me...my arm is beginning to show the signs!

When I went in Tuesday I was told that the results would be in Wednesday, so I called yesterday and had to leave a message for the nurse, then I finally talked to the front desk and she told me the nurse was gone for the day...great...then, she tells me my new doctor is on vacation now and won't be back until the 19th...even greater! So I left it, thinking there was nothing to be done. Then I called this morning and said just open my darn file and tell me if there is a + or a -. It's not that hard! Nope, no can do! I was so frustrated! However, the nurse who was supposed to be off on vacation too, just happened to be in for a bit today and called me to let me know that they hadn't received the results back from the lab yet. Lovely, please, take your time, it's not exciting news or anything! She told me she would call later today if they came in, but otherwise not to expect news until next Tuesday when they come back from the long weekend.

I know I'm pregnant, two positive tests, and still no period is enough to tell me that, but I just really wanted that positive blood test before I tell anyone else. Oh well!

I'm getting together with the girls this weekend before Randi goes back to Edmonton and Elsie and Ella are off to the UK, and we are going to stay at Laura's - the perfect opportunity to tell everyone at once! I can't wait to see their reaction! It was SO hard not to tell Elsie and Randi last weekend when I saw them!

In other news, I am peeing more than ever! I have to get up to pee part way through the night. If it's this bad already, I can't imagine how it will be once I have something bigger than a seed pushing down on my bladder! I'm also exhausted!

I'll update again when I FINALLY get the bloodwork results back!

First Appointment

Well, I went for my first baby-related appointment today! The appointment was set up initially to go over the results of my ultrasound from last week (regarding a possible cyst), but they said the doctor would be able to discuss my positive tests too (I took another one on Tuesday morning - even more positive!). I met with Dr. Scott in the orphan clinic, she is new and can't be more than 30 and is super nice! She told me there were no cyst's showing, but there was some excess fluid which is most likely from a cyst bursting, hence the pain. Then she congratulated me and went through my past cycles and dates and whatnot to find a due date - she calculated November 25th as the due date, but that is based on a regular cycle and mine is a little longer so I think it will be closer to early December. Then she got me all set up for ultrasounds and screening and bloodwork. I have 5 appointments booked already (3 ultrasounds and 2 clinic appointments) and 2 dates that I have to drop in for more blood work at the hospital. They also did bloodwork today - 6 viles, yikes!

Also, more exciting news, she is going to take Matt and I on as patients so we are no longer "orphans". She is sort of taking new patients, but they have to do random selection from the orphan clinic patients, but she said she takes on anyone prenatal because she realizes that we really need to have a Doctor and because then she gets to see lots of babies.

They said I can expect the results from the blood work today by Monday which will confirm the pregnancy 100%. My first ultrasound is booked for April 20th which will be a dating ultrasound to get a better idea of a due date.

Very exciting day! :)
